Effective Presentations - 5 Immutable Laws of Develop Speaker's notes
In my early days of doing presentations, I always thought that the notes of the presentation notes or speaker are not necessary since I have prepared very carefully. But, as my schedule gets more hectic due to increasing work commitments and projects, I begin to rely more on the notes of the speakers (like my preparation time for my various presentations will be shortened). For most people, therefore, to have something in front of them is essential. Lets first examine the roles of speaker notes
Role of Speaker Notes
a) To strengthen confidence. In case you do not need, there is a comfort to have something and you could easily refer to when asked about statistics and other information during Questions and Answers
b) To act as a guide to what you say and in what order they say in
c) To help you say the best way possible, producing the right variety, rhythm, emphasis, etc. as you go along
The five immutable laws of Develop Speaker's notes:
1) The readability is essential. Imagine having the notes that you can not read out! As a guide, you must use the type or write, and large enough to avoid the addition of small, messy embellishments. These notes should be capable of being used up and you should be able to see them when they are placed on the podium or on the table (it is some distance away when you try to read in feet)
2) The material for the notes must be carefully chosen to suit your purposes. Some people prefer the small cards, other larger sheets. Personally I prefer small card or folded paper (size B3) so that I can hide. Compare a presentation, while in the possession of an A4 sheet against cards that can be hidden in the palm of your hand. Which one looks like a presenter who is well prepared, confident and credible? You get the drift?
3) use only one side of the paper / card. This enables the modification and addition, if necessary, and makes the overall package easier to follow
4) Always number the pages of your material. When the "Murphy's Law strikes, yes, it will drop or lose your materials.
5) separated the different types of notes: for example, with regard to what you mean and how (ie, stress, etc.) and remember to use colors and symbols to help you find your way .......
