How to Slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 3

Time has now moved on and XP SP3 is now here. Not without its problems, but stable enough to risk an installation on your home. Let me start from the beginning again and provide guidance from start to finish. Show how to integrate SP3 into existing configuration file from a Windows XP CD. It is assumed that you have and are familiar with CD / DVD burning software, in this example I use Nero burner I'm sure others will as well, but this is my app of choice. You'll also need a small app called Isobuster for a single file on the installation CD that you need to make it all work.

You need the installation CD of Windows XP exists. You can use the vanilla configuration or a modified version of SP2 installation disk.

Since the beginning

If you have not already done so, download XP Service Pack 3, SP3, and save it with the name "XPSP3.exe" at the highest level of drive C.

You will need the boot sector of an existing bootable Windows 2000, XP or 2003 installation disk. Now would be a good time to be sure you have 'hidden files and folders' file attribute selected. Open the disk and navigate to the "cd" and folder "wxphome", and the directory "files". Copy the file "w2ksect.bin" in C:. Should be placed here will not work.

Now, you must extract the SP3 files. While the files are copied between the two positions, copy the standalone installer for Windows XP SP3, typically named windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe C: sp3. Then, open a command line window (Start, Run, cmd in Windows XP.

Then navigate to C: SP3 and extract the files. Each row is a separate command, and then they will need to press Enter at the end of each.

CD

SP3 CD

windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe-x: c: SP3

Once this has completed a quick look in the file should show a new folder called i386.

Integration

Now we need to merge the information together with the XP SP3 installation again. So, continuing with the command line window.

cd i386 cd update update.exe / integrate: c: xp

It will look like an installation, while the files are merged. So far so good!

Now we need to use Isobuster. Point at the installation CD and try 'boot disk' in the menu on the left. In the main screen looks like a file called 'Microsoft Corporation.img'. Right click and extract it to folder C: SP3. You may need to try this a couple of times I fell like a couple of times at this point.

Once this has completed we need to burn a disk!

Start Nero Burning ROM and start a new compilation. Select CD-ROM (Boot) from the left side. In the source section, click the image file that is selected and then click the Browse button. Navigate to C: SP3 and go down the list box that is currently set to boot-image-Files (* IMA) and choose All Files (*. *). Then select Microsoft Corporation.img and click OK.

Then, in the Advanced section of the window, make sure 'Enable advanced settings' is selected and all Kind of emulation No emulation.

Set the value 07C0 under Load segment of sectors.

Change the value of number of sectors 1-4 and then click 'New'

Using the File Browser tab on the right, navigate to C: xp. Then, drag the entire contents of this folder on the left side of the window. Copy the name of the existing drive and use it as the title of the new one. Set up the disc to be finalized and burn.

That's it! Now would be a good time to test your work ...

A note of caution. I have a couple of questions that my installation fails when you enter my product key during installation. It can work for you, but I waited and entered separately below .......
