Management skills essential


Management done well looks easy. Some people seem to be natural when it comes to managing people, processes, or money, while for others it seems to be a great fight. If you succeed in management there are some skills that you need to master, including:

Prioritizing

As soon as you become a manager, multi-tasking becomes the norm. No longer just think of one thing, you now need to be able to prioritize their own and usually set priorities for others. The key to this is knowing what your key documents are and ensure that these are the priority of the event.

Delegation

The management is all about getting results through others. Unfortunately, while many managers recognize this, many struggle to delegate effectively. There are a number of reasons why people do not delegate. They are afraid that the other person will do a good job. They are afraid that the other person will do the best job. Often you will do things because they like it. Another common reason is that it will be faster than doing it yourself. The reality is that unless you choose to delegate, your chances of success diminish significantly as a manager.

Motivate

Motivation is all about moving people toward achieving a result. It might be a faster closure of a monthly reporting cycle, changing the way the process works or a work team. Part of your skill set of managers is to understand what motivates those who manage them. Everyone is different. Some people want in terms of financial reward, recognition or appreciation, or others want a happy working environment. If you are to excel as a manager, you need to keep people motivated.

The hiring and recruitment

So much of your success depends on the results that are reached through the other. And 'therefore essential that you get the right people with the right skills and attributes just for your team. Yet many managers are at best competent when it comes to recruitment and selection. If this is an area where you fight, invest in developing the skills necessary to be a successful recruiter.

Decision Making

People look to you as the manager to make decisions. A manager undecided frustrates staff and leaves them feeling of loss. People can not always be like the decisions you make, but we will respect it more if you learn to make a decision.

Troubleshooting

Your job as a manager is to get results. As you try to get results, obstacles will arise and part of your job is to find or help others to find solutions to problems. Part of the challenge is to be systematic and make sure that you are facing the real problem, rather than something to level the surface. The diagnosis of the problem is key before you start thinking about solutions.

The management is challenging but also rewarding. You can become a better manager, focusing on the development of essential skills mentioned above. So what's next? ......
