THE VOICE OF POETRY SOCIAL CANARIA

Thousands Sall Augustine was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on June 30, 1917 and died in the same city on March 6, 1989. One grows up in a family of poets and artists, his father Juan Thousands Carlo, professor of secondary education, and his brother José María were poets, his brother Manuel, painter. Attends school at the Institute Pérez Galdós, where he studied avant-garde poet Agustín Espinosa, author of Crime, a work considered the fullest expression of Spanish surrealism. In 1932 he joined the Communist Party. He was arrested and taken to concentration camp at La Isleta, in 1938 he was banished along with his father to Lanzarote. Later he was drafted and has to go forward. Shortly afterwards created with his brothers Jose Maria and Manuel Planas a new collection of poetry. In the mid-sixties, appears on a quarterly basis, the literary magazine Thousands, also linked to his family.

The Canary Islands government in 1985 granted Canary Prize for Literature.

Thousands Augustine Sall 1929 published his first poem "The ship of death" in the newspaper La Voz Workers.
